An Alternate Perspective

I am finally an adult and looking back I feel as if I am well qualified to evaluate my parents’ successes and failures as parents and that I picked up quite a few parenting tips along the way. My advice to any parent would be to lisen to their child before responding. This is especially important during conflict. I found that it was good that my parents often stood their ground on certain subjects like curfew when I was younger so they could gradually increase my curfew. This gave me the feeling as if I was somehow growing up and gaining my parent’s respect. Compromising with your child is also a vital skill that every parent must learn. Giving your kid everything he or she ever wanted will only cause them to become snobby later on. Not giving your child anything will cause him or her to become sneaky and rebellious. You must find a balance. Parenting is all about finding a balance between what both the parents and the child need to feel comfortable.
