I am a physics major and as of yet, I have seen nothing in quantum mechanics to either refute or justify Christianity. In a way, quantum mechanics is a jigsaw puzzle that physicists are trying to piece together and there are spaces still left empty. I’m hearing from some religious groups that these "spaces" are empty because only an act of God can be the explanation. However, couldn’t it be that the "space" is filled in with something like an undiscovered elementary particle or something? Or perhaps that part of quantum theory is just wrong? Why do various groups try to use quantum mechanics to either refute or justify God’s existence when it really seems to do neither?

FINALLY AN INTELLIGENT QUESTION ON HERE – THANK YOU!

I have seen the What The Bleep movie (have you?). I haven’t personally heard Xtians use QM/P to justify their version of reality. What I’ve heard is scientists saying that the mere fact that things you’d think would be provable are not provable, and that in itself brings into question the genesis of our universe and the force behind it. I think they answer the question of life with a question – that we’ll never know the answer to, but the inquiry is fascinating and we keep learning that we don’t know as much as we think we do. Reality is not as real and solid as we assume.

Did Jesus Ask Judas to Betray Him?

Was there ever a Gospel According to Judas? An ancient book found in an Egyptian cave could be just that–and have an explosive message for Christians.
About three decades ago, a 2,000-year-old mystery surfaced when a farmer looking for treasure in an Egyptian cave instead found a decaying leather-bound book, called a Codex, written in ancient Coptic. Not realizing what he had, he sold it to an antiquities dealer.
Five years after the Codex was found, a scholar named Stephen Emmel was asked to look at it, but under the condition he not photograph it or make any notes. He told ABC’s "Primetime" that he leafed through it and spotted a dialogue between Jesus and Judas and his disciples. "The name Judas came up again and again," he recalled. Then for 16 years it sat crumbling in, of all places, a safe-deposit box in a Long Island, N.Y., Citibank. In 2000 it was sold to former antiquities dealer Frieda Nussberger-Tchacos, who told "Primetime," "I think the circumstances of this manuscript coming to me were predestined. Judas was asking me to do something for him."
National Geographic and ABC News report scholars now think this is the long lost Gospel of Judas that was banned by the early church as blasphemous and ordered destroyed. Deciphering it was a monumental task since the 13 pieces of papyrus were in more than 1,000 pieces. Swiss restorer Florence Darbre and her partner painstakingly fit the tiny pieces together like an ancient jigsaw puzzle. Then Emmel and another scholar, Rodolphe Kasser, were called in to authenticate the text. "I’ve looked at hundreds of papyri, Coptic papyri, in my career, and this is absolutely typical of ancient Coptic manuscripts," Emmel told "Primetime." "I’m completely convinced." The final task was to use radio carbon-dating to authenticate it, which meant destroying tiny pieces of the precious document. The result? The text was written between the third and fourth century and is believed to be a copy of a much older document written in Greek in the second century.
What it has to say could shake Christianity to its core: The Bible says that Judas is the one who betrayed Jesus Christ for 30 pieces of silver, handing him over for crucifixion, an act that damned him for all time. But this Gospel of Judas tells it differently: Jesus asked Judas to betray him.
"Now, the Gospel of Judas also has Judas say to Jesus in fear and terror that he has a dream that the other disciples will hate him and will stone him to death, will attack him, Elaine Pagels, a professor at Princeton University and one of the world’s foremost experts on ancient religious texts, told "Primetime." "And Jesus says, ‘Yes, in fact, they will think that you are a terrible person because of what you did. This is part of the burden that you bear. But they will be wrong about that.’ So it is an extraordinary transformation of the ordinary understanding of Judas Iscariot."
What does it mean? Pagels says that it shows Judas’s betrayal of Jesus was not a reprehensible act or the act of a traitor. "It’s a secret mystery between him and Jesus."
Herbert Krosney, author of "The Lost Gospel: The Quest for the Gospel of Judas Iscariot," goes even further. He calls Judas "the favored disciple of Jesus," adding, "He is the one whose star shines in the heavens and in the skies, and Judas, therefore, becomes unique. He is Jesus’s best friend rather than his betrayer."
Pagels admits there is no historical proof for the Gospel of Judas, just as there is no historical proof for the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. However, she is quick to say, "The Christian message is a message about faith and hope and, you know, the relationship between God and human beings. It’s not a matter of historical fact."
–From the Editors at Netscape

Now what in the world? Would YOU ask YOUR best friend to betray you? I dont think so.That makes no sense. This is another ploy of National Geographic (like they did with the secret lives of Jesus) to yet again pull down the validity of Jesus. Seems like the spirit of Judas is still influencing today. SO we are to believe some book found in some cave supposedly, but when we believers bring up the fact that the ancient dead sea scrolls were found, oh no-theres holes in that – we get flack. Those cant be valid but this one is? This is hypocritical and a desperate attempt to discredit God and His work on the cross.

Academy Award® nominee Don Cheadle (Hotel Rwanda, Crash) and Guy Pearce (Memento, L.A. Confidential) star in Traitor, a taut international thriller set against a jigsaw puzzle of covert counter-espionage operations. Traitor is written and directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff (screenwriter of The Day After Tomorrow).

When straight arrow FBI agent Roy Clayton heads up the investigation into a dangerous international conspiracy, all clues seem to lead back to former U.S. Special Operations officer, Samir Horn. A mysterious figure with a web of connections to terrorist organizations, Horn has a knack for emerging on the scene just as a major operation goes down. The inter-agency task force looking into the case meets with Carter, a veteran CIA contractor who seemingly has his own agenda and Max Archer, a fellow FBI agent. The task force links Horn to a prison break in Yemen, a bombing in Nice and a raid in London, but a tangle of contradictory evidence emerges, forcing Clayton to question whether his quarry is a disaffected former military operative — or something far more complicated. Obsessed with discovering the truth, Clayton tracks Horn across the globe as the elusive ex-soldier burrows deeper and deeper into a world of shadows and intrigue.

Here’s just a rough sketch from what I can remember from my early years in college level biology and philosophy.

Darwinian theory was the vital piece in the biological jigsaw puzzle. It was the driving force that unified so many disciplines of biology, like Mendelian genetics, population genetics, systematics, botany, zoology and modern molecular genetics and cell biology.

These disciplines are now bound together by Darwinian theory… to yield what is called "the modern synthesis" or "Neo-Darwinism".

In the late 1800s, Mendelian patterns of genetic inheritance were clearly observed and could be measured. It wasn’t until the early 1900s that Mendel’s work was revisited and properly connected with observations in population genetics.

The modes of inheritance and observations in populations of vairous species was perfectly consistent with Darwin’s theory of natural selection, which predicted such observations.

But still no one knew what the units of inheritance were? UNTIL…

The advent of modern molecular genetics in the middle of the last century which demonstrated the molecular basis of how the patterns of inheritance were observed and how chromosomes/DNA were the units of inheritance and the genetic material…. It all came together so elegantly… which one can only expect from genuine science and a robust scientific theory. You had two levels coming together nicely, the macro level (populations, morphology, diversity) and the micro level (cells, genes, DNA)

The jigsaw puzzle was finally revealing the picture of biological reality and that picture was very elegant. Evolutionary theory itself was confirmed as well as playing the vital role of unifying all of the major disciplines of biology. The coherence between evolutionary theory and the disciplines was astounding…! All this came together in the mid 1900s!…. BUT THEN….. in the 1970s there was a new kid on the block called "SOCIOBIOLOGY"!!!!!!

At this very moment as we speak, the modern, more nuanced version of socio-biology is "evolutionary-psychology" or more generally "philosophy of biology" or "evolutionary philosophy". This is one of the newest most exciting, cutting edge of the sciences around. It is further revealing the jigsaw puzzle picture of reality… and this time it is not just crude biological reality but also social/psychological reality. It’s gonna be HUGE!!!

This new science is massively unifying so many other disciplines like psychology, neuroscience, ethics, morality, behavior, history, intelligence, consciousness… and so on.

The irony is that evolutionary theory is so powerful that it can explain plausibly why people are inclined to be creationists. It can explain why we have our moral intuitions, why we feel disposed to believe certain things and act in certain ways… evolutionary theory is the bridge or glue that brings together the life sciences and humanities/social science.

The jigsaw puzzle is exponentially growing!!! Evolutionary theory is clearly the single most important, significant and profound theory of science. In my opinion it is on a par with, or if not, more significant than Newtonian mechanics, relativity and quantum theory, which are still looking for that glue to bind them together and complete the science of physics.

In contrast, Biology has been MADE! Completed! Unified! "owned" by evolutionary theory. Without evolutionary theory all of biology would still be lame…. without any legs to stand on other than the crutches of religious thought and pseudoscience.

Evolutionary theory is the grandest of grand unifying theories around because we have already seen how it is grandly unifying! and it still has more to come! We are social creatures made from flesh and bone… Evolutionary theory is the link between genes and memes! It is the bridge between meat and culture!…

Evolutionary theory cannot be any more emphatic when it comes to making god redundant. Thus when it comes to explaining the living universe it is therefore indeed more powerful than any gap-filler god that has been invoked throughout human existence.

That is the all-powerful nature of science folks!
Funny how a theist claims that this or that is just a theory and that theories can be right or wrong!!!…And that one should keep an open mind!!!

It’s a pity that some have declared their belief in god to be true and closed off any possibility that they might be wrong.

You ask, Christians? Have you ever wondered how science works? & whether God is more powerful than evolutionary theory?

My answer is no, I have not, I have studied science and know pretty well how it works. If god is more powerful than the theory then he approves of and apparently has ordered things in remarkable agreement with said theory, which may be reason to reevaluate so called sacred books that seem to be mistaken about the facts of evolution.
