rules for boardgame explore europe by ravensburger?

August 8, 2009 - 3:17 am 2 Comments

I remeber playing this when I was a kid in the 80s, back then it was called Journey Through Europe.

Basically, each player picks 2 cards of each colour (used to be red, green and yellow), each player then pick a 7th card. This is your hometown and is where your flag goes.

The objective is to visit all 6 cities and return to your hometown before the other players. Cities with big red circles are airports. you can fly to other cities with these markings. You should have flight cards which are divided into a grid of 6. If you roll 5 or 6, you can move through 2 grid squares, 3 or 4 and you can fly into a neighbouring square and 2 means a flight within the same square. YOU CANNOT MOVE DIAGONALLY (bone of contention when I was young). You do not have to be on an airport before your journey starts, eg if you are on a town 1 stop away from an airpost, simply subtract that from your pre-flight total.

Phew, it’s much harder to explain as opposed to playing it!!

What are some tips for doing a 1000 piece puzzle? my first one. details inside.?

August 6, 2009 - 5:08 am 2 Comments

so last night i did a 100 piece puzzle and i wanted more of a challenege so i went and bought a 1000 piece puzzle. im looking at the pieces and im completely overwhelmed. a few tips would be greatly apreciated. i am doing a 1000 piece Ravensburger Puzzle of Mona Lisa. thank you.

Whenever I start on a puzzle this large, I always go through the entire box and get all the edge pieces. They’re always the easist to spot. While I’m sorting through, I usually find a few pieces that are already put together (usually only two pieces that just weren’t broken apart). I go ahead and pull these out, too, and set them to the side. As I’m looking at all these pieces, I start to notice pieces that look the same (i.e. flowers, sky, wood, trees, etc.). After I sort through everything to get the edge pieces, I put all that together. Then, I try to start working from the outside in. For example, if I’m doing a puzzle of a barn with flowers, trees, and the sky, I might start on the sky first because I’ve already got the outside section that has the sky on it finished. So, go back to your box and pull out the sky pieces. It probably sounds like a long process, but I’ve been doing it this way for a long time, and I’ve found it to be the most thorough as opposed to just pushing the pieces around hoping to find what you need.

Hope that helps!!! I bet your puzzle will look wonderful when you’ve finished it!! :o )

Can anyone tell me how much this Ravensburger game set is worth?

August 4, 2009 - 8:20 am 1 Comment

I bought a wooden box set of games by Ravensburger at a thrift store. The instruction manual says it was made 1966 and is in German. It even came with the original reciept. It was purchased for $118 Dm in 1969. I do not know the name of this box set, as I cannot find it anywhere. It has many games inside like Roulette, memory, cards, dominos, and many others that I do not know, since the names are in German. Does anyone know how much this is worth or where I can find it online. I have searched extensively and have come up with nothing.

I can’t give you an answer but i know who can. www.boardgamegeek.com is the foremost authority on all things related to board games. from your description you might need to supply a picture or two to help us identify your game. Good Luck!

How do I find English instructions for the German board game "Europareise"?

August 2, 2009 - 8:16 am 2 Comments

I have the German board game "Europareise" that looks fun to play, however the instructions and game cards are in German.
The game is made by Ravensburger, the model # is 01205 3, and it was purchased in West Germany in 1987. My last hope, I guess, would be to buy a German-English dictionary to translate word by word. I would probably be done in 5 years.

You’re in luck, the good folks at the Board Game Geek have provided an English version of the rules, located here:

http://files.boardgamegeek.com/viewfile.php3?fileid=21260

"Journey Through Europe" was the English name of the game, and the rules should match up with your copy of Europareise.

Ravensburger has also re-released the game as a no-dice version, which you might enjoy as well.

Happy gaming!
