what should my 2 year be doing (academically?)?

November 24, 2009 - 6:47 am 4 Comments

hes only just turned 2 and the main thing worrying me is hes seems unable to do jigsaws. when i say jigsaws i mean the baby ones where you match a picture to its shape and insert! he seems to be able to do shapesorters but could be a fluke and doesnt have a very good one!
his nephew was doing floor puzzles at this age but my son cant do baby ones?

he doesnt show that much interest which may be down to me not stting down and doing them but surely its a basic skill to match a picture to a shape even when theres a picture in the shape to match it??

he also knws no colours or numbers! he is starting to mimic me when counting though and many people ask him colours and numbers (i think they think he knows!) which im hoping will help!

Your son sounds very normal. He is still a baby and each month will bring wonderful changes.

I taught my son sign language at 8 months. He learned to speak with his hands by 10 months and was fully capable of communication through sign language between 12-14 months.

My son still has trouble with colors and numbers and only know a couple of letters. He is now 2.5yrs and has only been potty trained for 2 weeks.

Listen, don’t worry about it. At 24 months, this isn’t a basic skill. I have taught my son many things and he is very smart. He still hasn’t mastered the things you have listed, but he will.

Can a jigsaw blade for ceramics be used to cut porcelain tiles?

November 24, 2009 - 6:47 am 4 Comments

Rona has a blade that is used for scrolling etc. but does not
mention porecelain. Where can I obtain the most desireable
blade and approximate cost?

get yourself a 4" angle grinder and put a specialist porcelain wheel on it , a normal one for ceramic tiles will take an age to cut through and will chip the edges quite badly, it will also get blunt pretty quickly and end up not going through at all. I use a wheel called a ‘Marcrist CK850 ‘ it costs about £30 but it goes cleanly through the toughest porcelain like a hot knife through butter. You can get them off the net or if you need one quick Builder Center do them. Don’t waste your time on the jigsaw blade it won’t work!

How do I search for a word within a group of word documents without opening the documents?

November 19, 2009 - 3:49 pm 3 Comments

I often need to search a group of files, say 20 files in a 5 different folders, for a word or words. I don’t want to open each file and search it.

You can search for words within files from the Windows Explorer, Start Menu, Search, Files or Folders, "A word or phrase within a file".

Windows can read the contents of Word files.

Do you think Jigsaw would want to play a game with you?

November 19, 2009 - 3:49 pm 5 Comments

I asked this question but screwed it up, so i’m asking again. Do you think you value your life? Or can you see yourself in one of Jigsaw’s games? Thanks for your answers!

I am in a different game. It is "who can destroy the other in our family first" kind of game. It’s sick, but I didn’t know I was playing until last week. Nah, the jigsaw game was obvious. This other thing snuck up on me like a bad skunk.

What is the best way to search for a word withing several word documents?

November 16, 2009 - 1:08 am 4 Comments

Hello,

I want to search for a word within the word documents in a directory. I use Windows Vista and Office 2007. I tried the Windows Explorer search engine but it didn’t word (although I had explicitly chosen the option that it should search within the content of the file and not only the names). For example, Adobe Reader has a beautiful search engine that allows one to search all the pdfs in a certain directory. Is there something similar for Word? Thank you.

You have to setup Desktop search and then filter files to *.doc and keyword.

How do I get started on a jigsaw puzzle?

November 16, 2009 - 1:08 am 5 Comments

It is a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle and it’s my third that I have recieved, the first one being a 100 and then a 550 piece set.

I just don’t know how to start this one!

I always start with the corners, and the edge pieces. From there, it’s just a question of patience and observation.

Enjoy :-)
