How can I search Word documents on my hard drive by keyword?

October 31, 2009 - 8:45 pm 2 Comments

I’ve tried the search function built into Windows Vista, and also Google Desktop search.

Neither of these will find EVERY document on my hard drive that contains a given keyword (such as "Shakespeare"). These programs only find SOME of the documents.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

With Windows Vista you should rebuild the search index – or at least check that all the locations where your documents are stored are included in the list of monitored folders.

However, in Word you can click File/Open or whatever and then click Tools at the top right of the Open dialog box. You will then see "search" at the top of the menu. This will let you search for word docs containing keywords.

Anyone know how to solve the Jigsaw puzzle in Nancy Drew’s Curse of Blackmoor Manor?

October 31, 2009 - 8:45 pm 2 Comments

I need to solve the Jigsaw puzzle in order for Jane to give me the
telescope back for Nancy’s room. It’s so difficult. Almost to difficult.
Does anyone know an easier way to solve this puzzle?

Reassemble the puzzle within five minutes. Pieces lock in place when they’re in the right place.

The easiest strategy is to move all the pieces out of the square, then put the corners in place, then the edges, then the middle pieces. The finished picture is a goofy abstract of rabbits lurking in the grass.

In Junior mode, all the pieces are the right way around at the start. In Senior mode they’re jumbled and may have to be turned before they’ll go in; right-click to rotate a piece.

Either way it’s not that hard, since you have five full minutes to finish.

How can I search the word in the specific date files by using any/grep command in the Unix server?

October 28, 2009 - 10:20 pm 2 Comments

Few hundreds files are available in Unix server and files do not follow any naming convention.
I want to search one word in all the files which were created in the specific date/period by using any/grep command. How can I do that? Thanks much for your info.

Ex:
Required word is "ABC Inc" and want to search in the files which were created on 6-Dec-2006 or
Required word is "ABC Inc" and want to search in the files which were created in the period
5-Dec-2006 to 8-Dec-2006.

This might help. A quick rundown:

# create 2 reference files with timestamps just before and just after the date in question

touch -m -t 200511142359.59 /var/tmp/f1
touch -m -t 200511160000.00 /var/tmp/f2

# run the find command starta CWD looking for regular files that fit the date

find . -type f \( -newer /var/tmp/f1 -a ! -newer /var/tmp/f2 \) -print

You could maybe pipe this output into grep like so:

find . -type f \( -newer /var/tmp/f1 -a ! -newer /var/tmp/f2 \) | grep "ABC Inc"

You could always use -mtime if the days you’re wondering about are X days from today, but this should work for all cases…? Haven’t tried it, so good luck.

What is the technical term for "jigsaw" crime evidence?

What is the technical term for "jigsaw" crime evidence?
I don’t mean the figurative term, I am referring to when an item found at the scene matches up with a piece from the suspect. i.e. the tip of the suspect’s knife broke off in the victim’s wound, or a shard of broken glass from a hit-and-run victim matches up with the windshield and fits where it was broken.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help :)

"the found part matches the broken original"

I am struggling to do the jigsaw because the box picture is so small. Does anyone know where I can get a larger picture?? maybe on the internet?

There’s a pic of it on ebay, but that might not be any better than the box, it’s the largest i could find though!
good luck!

Can someone help me make a search for a word puzzle?

October 22, 2009 - 8:00 pm 2 Comments

I am trying to make a search a word puzzle. I want to be able to do them in different shapes and have the words form a picture. That picture would be the theme for the puzzels.
I also wanted to try to make one that has a illusion in it. Its like looking at a picture within a picture, I am not sure a picture within a picture can be made with words.

Who would you be more scared to find in your room at night, Chucky or Jigsaw?

October 22, 2009 - 8:00 pm 9 Comments

I’d say Chucky, because Jigsaw’s not that bad without the machines.
(I’m trying to decide which to be for a scary costume party in two weeks)

And also, should I use a mask, or face paint and fake blood? I’m thinking a mask would be easier to recognize.

jigsaw is scarier since once you get in your room there’s traps set up all over just for you and chucky is just a doll you can just kick into the closet or out of the room.

I say get a mask but also it depands if you get one with or without the scars and staples.I say without but with the creepy smile and some blood on it.If it’s chucky that you pick.
